American Eagle launches interactive fitting rooms

1/11/2019
American Eagle Outfitters is digitally sprucing up the often tedious process of trying on clothing.

Partnering with Aila Technologies, American Eagle is offering an interactive fitting room experience in several U.S. flagship stores, including locations in Boston, Las Vegas and San Francisco. Each interactive fitting room features a mounted iOS-based kiosk from Aila running custom-built software that enables shoppers to scan items.

Customers can immediately see and request other available sizes and styles, receive product recommendations, view running cart totals, and email information to themselves or others. In addition, shoppers can send notifications to store associates to request delivery of any other pieces they want to try on.

The interactive fitting room solution also offers features for device security, loss prevention, and customer privacy. In addition to enhancing customer experience, American Eagle is obtaining a new stream of customer data it can analyze to better understand shopping behaviors.

American Eagle reports improvement in customer engagement compared to regular fitting rooms. The retailer, which operates more than 1,000 stores in the United States, Canada, Mexico, China and Hong Kong, plans to expand the interactive solution to more locations in 2019.

“We recognize the way our customers shop is constantly evolving,” said Dave Repp, American Eagle’s chief technology officer. “We are dedicated to embracing innovative technologies that can address their needs, and by partnering with Aila Technologies, we’ve been able to provide an enhanced fitting room experience, while empowering our store associates to better serve and connect with our customers.”
