Another professional sports franchise is equipping its stadium for cashierless shopping.

The Baltimore Orioles Major League Baseball team is partnering with integrated payment technology provider Shift4 to provide a frictionless shopping experience at concession locations across its Oriole Park at Camden Yards home stadium. The Orioles will leverage the Shift4 end-to-end commerce ecosystem, including frictionless mobile ordering and payment technologies.

In addition, an integration between Shift4 and officially-licensed fan gear and merchandise brand Fanatics will support the retail transactions at the stadium’s merchandise locations.

“We’re thrilled to partner with the Orioles to deliver a best-in-class guest experience,” said Anthony Perez, Shift4 senior VP of new verticals. “Fans can expect all their transactions at concession stands and retail locations to be as quick and seamless as possible so that they can get back to enjoying the game.”

Sports arenas implement frictionless shopping

A large number of stadiums and arenas across all major U.S. sports leagues are adopting cashierless shopping solutions from a variety of vendors. For example, wo two convenience stores equipped with Amazon’s Just Walk Out frictionless shopping platform and Amazon One palm-based payment solution are now open at Globe Life Field in Arlington, Texas, home field of the Texas Rangers pro baseball team.

And Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, home field of the Las Vegas Raiders NFL football team has unveiled four new turnkey frictionless stores. The facility is operating the stores, which measure an average of 240-sq.-ft., which are installed directly into empty concourse spaces in as little as one week. They provide a frictionless shopping experience with the Zippin checkout-free platform. Leveraging the Zippin solution, the stores enable shoppers to tap a credit card to enter and then select the items they want.

In other examples, Fenway Park, home stadium of the Boston Red Sox Major League Baseball team, uuveiled the Instacart Caper Counter artificial intelligence (AI)-based POS system that lets customers place packaged food and beverage items for purchase, where they are automatically detected and added to the cart for contactless checkout.

American Airlines Center is collaborating with hospitality company Levy and DBK Studio, to open a new Market To-Go store utilizing an AI-based autonomous retail platform from Standard AI and mobile payment technology from SpotOn to let customers shop and checkout with a mobile app.
