The conversion of Target’s in-store pharmacies and health clinics to CVS Pharmacy and Minute Clinic has begun.

The first of the new store-within-a-store concept showcasing the CVS Health and Target partnership went live Wednesday morning in the Charlotte, North Carolina, market.

Teams from Target and CVS Health will spend the next six to eight months converting all of Target’s 1,672 pharmacies and 79 clinics nationwide to CVS Pharmacy and Minute Clinic locations.

The conversion includes converting technologies and systems, training employees and rebranding the physical space.

Customers will see CVS branded signage throughout the store, including on the outside. In addition, pharmacy technicians will wear blue scrubs, pharmacists will wear CVS-branded lab coats, prescription bottles will look a little different and both the pharmacy and clinics will get new paint and other fresh touches.

The most noticeable physical changes will happen overnight: The pharmacy or clinic will close as Target Pharmacy or Target Clinic and open the next morning as CVS Pharmacy or Minute Clinic.

In December 2015, CVS Health completed a deal to acquire all Target pharmacies and retail clinics across 47 states. The acquisition expanded CVS Health’s pharmacy footprint by approximately 20% and its clinic footprint by about 8%. CVS Health now has a presence in every state except Wyoming.
