North American Properties to begin redevelopment of Marietta shopping center

The Cobb County Board of Commissioners has granted unanimous approval to North American Properties to move forward with its redevelopment of Avenue East Cobb, the Marietta, Ga., lifestyle center it acquired a year ago.

Opened in 1999 as one of the first pedestrian-friendly outdoor centers in the nation, the 30-acre property with 44 tenants is slated for a re-make that will be centered by “The Plaza,” an 8,000-sq.-ft. space surrounded by restaurants with patios to “increase street-level energy,” according to NAP.

Also planned for that space is a raised stage for performances, an LED screen for broadcasting live TV events, and a deck for audience seating. NAP plans to make great use of The Plaza for 100 planned events throughout the year.

Also new to the development is a 500- sq.-ft Concierge building where guests will have access to resort-level services such as dining reservation assistance and valets. Two 2,500-sq.-ft. jewel boxes – standalone retail/restaurant spaces – will be constructed adjacent to Concierge.

“This project has been a long time coming and we are grateful to the Cobb County Board of Commissioners as well as local residents for supporting our vision,” said Mike Lant, NAP’S senior VP of development. “It’s time for the property to be redefined into a social gathering hub that inspires a new generation of memories.”

The company plans to begin breaking ground on new additions to Avenue East Cobb in the coming weeks.
