Six Flags is opening stores equipped with Amazon 'Just Walk Out.'

Two Six Flags theme park locations now feature cashierless stores equipped with Amazon ‘Just Walk Out’ technology.

The Six Flags Magic Mountain park in Los Angeles is opening a “Quick Six” concessions store featuring Amazon’s Just Walk Out checkout-free shopping technology on Thursday, Sept. 28, 2023. It follows the Just Walk Out-enabled Quick Six store which opened at the Six Flags Grezt Adventure park in Jackson Township, N.J. during Memorial Day weekend 2023.

This strategic collaboration between Six Flags, Amazon and Coca-Cola enables customers to enter the store using their credit card at the entry gate. The Just Walk Out technology leverages a combination of computer vision, sensor fusion deep learning and generative AI to detect what shoppers take from or return to the shelves and creates a virtual shopping session.

When customers complete their shopping, they can leave the store without waiting in line, and their choice of payment method will be charged for the items they took with them.

“Our goal is to elevate our customers’ experience and allow them to spend more time making memories instead of standing in line,” said Stephanie Borges, global VP of Six Flags. "This collaboration marks a turning point in theme parks, bringing together innovative technology and captivating attractions to create the ultimate experience for our customers."

“From the moment we learned about Amazon’s Just Walk Out technology, we saw an opportunity to ensure Coca-Cola was a part of this experience,” said Rachel Chahal, director of amusement and ‘eatertainment’ partnerships at The Coca-Cola Company. “We are proud of the inaugural launch of the Six Flags Great Adventure store earlier this summer and look forward to success on the West Coast.”

Sports arenas implement Just Walk Out

The opening of Just Walk Out-enabled stores at theme parks aligns with a concurrent trend of the frictionless shopping technology increasingly being deployed at stores within sports arenas. For example, the new Seahawks Pro Shop Outlet at Lumen Field in Seattle and the net-zero carbon-certified Climate Pledge Arena in Seattle (home of the Seattle Kraken NHL franchise) both feature stores that combine Just Walk Out with RFID technology to enable checkout-free shopping for apparel and other softlines items

And in March 2023, Globe Life Field in Arlington, Texas (home field of the Texas Rangers pro baseball team) opened two convenience stores equipped with Just Walk Out and Amazon One palm-based biometric payment.

Bridgestone Arena, the home arena of the Nashville Predators professional hockey team, recently started leveraging Amazon technology in a new cashierless convenience store. Fiserv Arena, home arena of the Milwaukee Bucks professional basketball franchise, provides a checkout-free shopping option with Amazon technology.

And Crypto.com Arena, the home stadium of the NBA’s Los Angeles Lakers and L.A. Clippers, the NHL’s L.A. Kings and the WNBA’s Los Angeles Sparks, opened two new “grab and go” locations equipped with the technology in October 2022.
