Sweetgreen scan to earn and redeem awards
Sweetgreen's new scan to earn and redeem awards offering.

Members of the Sweetgreen Sweetpass loyalty program have a new, mobile-enabled and gamified way to earn and redeem rewards in the store.

The rapidly growing healthy eating chain, which rolled out its two-tier Sweetpass loyalty program in April 2023, says it is responding to the number one request from Sweetpass and Sweetpass+ members by enabling them to earn and redeem rewards in-store when paying at checkout.

Now, loyalty members can use the Sweetgreen app to scan rewards in-store in a gamified manner. They can open the app at checkout, select “start challenge” under the loyalty tab at the bottom of the screen, tap "scan" to gain access to the QR code and scan at the cash register to begin earning toward their selected challenge.

When a loyalty member scans the QR code to redeem, eligible perks or rewards will be automatically applied to their order after they scan. Members who have multiple rewards can select which one to redeem. Customers then pay for the order with the preferred contactless or physical payment method.

To celebrate the launch of this feature, Sweetpass members can get a free beverage, bag of chips or crispy rice treat with a minimum purchase of $9.95 when they scan the QR code in stores through Sunday, Oct. 1.

“Our customers are the heart of our business. With nearly 50% of Sweetgreen customers purchasing in-store, we are excited to offer the best of our rewards across all our owned channels,” said Nathaniel Ru, co-founder and chief brand officer, Sweetgreen. “Starting today, our loyalty program works on all in-store orders, driving unmatched value, customer experience and savings with the simplicity of in-person scanning.”

Sweetgreen Sweetpass – an overview

Developed as a two-tiered model, Sweetpass offers a free membership tier giving customers the ability to earn points by opting in to personalized “challenges.” It also provides access to new menu items and limited edition exclusive merchandise drops.

The program also offers a paid membership, called Sweetpass+, a $10 per month plan that offers $3 off daily Sweetgreen orders, priority customer support, delivery perks, premier access to merchandise drops, and exclusive experiences.

Customers gain access to their Sweetpass and Sweetpass+ accounts through a dedicated section in the Sweetgreen app and through the retailer’s website. Customers can also stay up to date on Sweetpass exclusive menu releases, drops and collaborations taking place throughout the year through the retailer’s app, website and Instagram page.
