Verizon deploys voice-activated digital shopping in stores

Verizon hears what customers are saying, with smart signs located in physical stores.

The wireless device and services retailer is deploying voice-activated 5G experiences at stores nationwide. The in-store, brand-specific, voice-activated digital experience is based on smart sign technology from digital signage platform Reflect Systems and signage media player provider BrightSign.

Customers activate the digital signage experience, which provides an in-depth look at Verizon’s 5G entertainment and home offerings, via voice command. Specifically, customers begin their activation by saying “Hey Verizon,” followed by a command, such as “show me a comparison.”

By rolling out interactive smart signs, Verizon hopes to provide an interactive, customized in-store experience that more closely resembles shopping online. In addition, offering voice-activated options in brick-and-mortar retail locations provides contact-free shopping for customers as the COVID-19 pandemic continues.

“Today, customers perceive voice assistants as the smarter, faster and easier way to perform everyday activities. But until now, those voice experiences have been limited to Siri, Alexa and Google,” said Lee Summers, CEO at Reflect. “With this deployment, Verizon’s customers will get an unmatched digital experience, and we feel confident that large-scale retailers across the country will soon follow in Verizon’s footsteps.”
