Whole Foods Market has opened its 17th store in the Big Apple.

The natural and organic foods grocer unveiled a 42,000-sq.-ft. location — its 534th store to date — in New York City’s Financial District, in One Wall Street  (at 66 Broadway).  The Art Dec-styled building, which dates back to 1929, originally housed the Irving Trust Company. It has been reborn as a luxury condominium with retail space on the lower level.

The design of the new Whole Foods pays homage to the Art Deco history of the building, and has both Wall Street- and Financial District-inspired influences. The product assortment features more than 1,000 local items from New York City and the surrounding area. It also includes full-service coffee bar and a prepared foods section with a food hall feel offering hot and cold food bars, made-in-house rotisserie chicken, sushi and a self-service pizza station.

Other features include a specialty department dedicated to celebrating cheesemakers and artisan producers. The cheese counter is overseen by a trained “certified cheese professional” who can offer recommendations for any occasion and create custom boards.

Additional store highlights include:

  • Full-service seafood counter featuring a robust shellfish selection and ready-to-cook offerings. All offerings are either sustainable wild-caught or Responsibly Farmed;
  •
  • Full-service meat counter, with butchers available to cut steaks to order or debone poultry;
  • Bakery offering made-in-house bread as well as everyday favorites;
  • Whole Body section featuring more than 100 local products; and more.

The new Whole Foods includes one of the company’s first-ever Local and Emerging Accelerator  Program ( LEAP) cohort members, CHKP Foods, maker of a plant-based yogurt. The LEAP program provides mentorship, education and the potential for financial support to promote business growth.

Montana

In other Whole Foods News, the company is set to open its first-ever location in Montana on Feb. 1. Located in Bozeman, the store will be designed with outdoor adventure in mind, the store features a modern and earthy look including exposed wood beams, high ceilings and large paneled windows overlooking the nearby mountains. An outdoor patio with outdoor heaters provides a cozy atmosphere for dining or sipping a beverage.
