A value grocer will soon be joining the list of tenants at the Totowa Commons power center in New Jersey.

European discount grocery Lidl will join the mall’s lineup alongside The Home Depot, Staples and Fortunoff Backyard with a 27,270 sq.-ft. store. Known for its low-cost private label items, Lidl operates more than 170 stores across nine East Coast states in the U.S.

“Lidl is a popular and in-demand value grocer that brings a new use to Totowa Commons,”  said Leigh Lyons, SVP of leasing for Urban Edge, the investment trust that manages Totowa Commons. “This is their second location in Passaic County, and we expect that it will increase regular traffic and visits to the center.”

According to recent data from Northmarq, Lidl is among the top expanding grocers, trailing only Kroger and its European competitor Aldi. Most recently, Lidl opened its 174th location, a 35,000-sq.-ft. store within the Queens Place Mall in the New York City borough.

Germany-based Lidl operates more than 12,000 stores and is active in 32 countries. It first established its U.S. headquarters in Arlington County, Virginia in 2015, and opened its first U.S. store two years later.

Located in Passiac County, Totawa Commons serves the Totowa, Little Falls, Woodland Park, Fairfield, and West Caldwell communities. The power center is nearby other retail options, located less than three minutes from Willowbrook Mall and Wayne Town Center.

Urban Edge operates 76 properties totaling 17.1 million square feet of gross leasable area.
