Mango's 22,000-sq.-ft. flagship on Fifth Avenue served as the bellwether of its U.S. expansion.
A Spanish fast-fashion retailer has entered into a deal to expand its footprint in the United States.
Mango will open seven stores in Brookfield properties in Texas, California, and Georgia, and the operator of more than 140 U.S. shopping centers said this is just the start of a deal that will see the Barcelona-based retailer open in several more locations next year. Mango is on a mission to open 40 stores in the U.S. within the next couple of years.
“We are proud of our partnership with Mango and know our communities will be excited for this new addition,” said Brookfield senior VP of leasing Robert Michaels.
Mango first appeared in America in 2006, but kept a low profile until opening a 22,600-sq.-ft. flagship store on Fifth Avenue in New York last year. It then opened stores in two well-trafficked Florida locations—on Lincoln Road and in the Aventura Mall in Miami.
“We plan to keep growing in the next years in the United States, one of the most important markets in the world,” said Daniel Lopez, Mango’s expansion director.
Mango’s 2023 Brookfield openings will occur at:
- North Star Mall and The Shops at La Cantera in San Antonio
- Baybrook Mall in Friendswood, Texas
- Stonebriar Center in Frisco, Texas
- Perimeter Mall in Atlanta
- Victoria Gardens in Rancho Cucamonga, Calif.
- Glendale Galleria in Glendale, Calif.
Mango, which sells menswear and womenswear in high-quality fabrics, maintains strong presences in Europe and Asia, but has been slow to build an independent identity in America. The brand, has wide affirmation in the U.S., however, via online sales and partnerships with department stores including Macy’s and Nordstrom.
Founded in 1984, Mango has a physical presence in more than 115 markets, but transacts 40% of its business online.
Its reported $800,000 renovation of the space at San Antonio’s La Cantera Mall is expected to be completed this summer, though no grand opening date has been released.
