Face Piercing App
The Face Piercing App.

Face piercings? Yeah, there’s an augmented reality app for that.

Launched in November 2023, the Face Piercing App, is an artificial intelligence (AI)-based digital tool designed to enable users to virtually try on facial piercings with a few clicks. The browser app, compatible with mobile phones, tablets and desktops, leverages AI and facial recognition technology to let users virtually experiment with various facial piercings, ranging from lip to eyebrow piercings, in three segmented steps.

Initially, users select the facial areas for piercings, with 29 options available including eyebrows, cheeks, nose, and lips. The second step involves customizing the chosen piercings in terms of material, color, and design, with at least five variations per spot.

Finally, users upload a photo from their library or take a selfie without interrupting the process. For optimal results, the app recommends using photos where the face is frontal, clearly visible, and occupies at least 70% of the image. The app has a database of predefined piercings, featuring various materials like plastic, metal, or glass; diverse types such as spikes, rings and balls; an assortment of colors; and styles ranging from classic to unique pre-designed options.

Functioning as a piercing simulator, the Face Piercing App says it is applicable to a wide range of use cases, ranging from personal amusement to helping individuals visualize piercings before getting actual ones, as well as assisting piercing salons in offering clients a way to select their piercing location and design.

The Face Piercing App is offering virtual try-on in a new product area as recent data from Klarna indicates close to three-in-10 (28%) surveyed consumers expect the future of shopping to include AR try-on, and 23% predict artificial intelligence (AI) will advise which clothes to buy.

According to the app's research and development team, so far, the app averages six to seven piercings virtually tried on per user, with what Face Piercing App calls “significant engagement” from piercing studios. The Face Piercing App plans to expand its design offerings and introduce more features in 2024.
